Fire Guts Challenge Phone Village, Destroys Goods Worth Millions of Naira in Kwara

A fire outbreak has destroyed part of the popular Challenge Phone Village in Ilorin, the Kwara State capital. The incident occurred around 9:06 PM on Wednesday, prompting a swift intervention by the Kwara State Fire Service, which helped prevent further destruction.

FirstNews correspondent learnt that 120 shops and 80 kiosks, mostly used for mobile phone sales and repairs were burnt down.

According to multiple reports, the fire was triggered by a power surge.

Hassan Hakeem Adekunle, Head of Media and Publicity for the Director of the Kwara State Fire Service, the fire was contained to just 10 kiosks.

He said, “Our fire crew promptly mobilized and arrived at the scene to find several shops already engulfed in flames,” the statement read.

“Through swift intervention, professionalism, and tactical expertise, our team successfully curtailed the spread of the fire, limiting its impact significantly.”

The Director of the Kwara State Fire Service, Prince Falade John Olumuyiwa, extended his heartfelt sympathy to affected traders.

He said, “I pray that all losses incurred in the incident will be divinely restored in multiple folds.”
