Five Dead, 10 Rescued In Abuja Building Collapse, Rescue Efforts Continue

At least five people have been confirmed dead, while 10 others were pulled out alive after a three-storey building under construction collapsed in the Durumi 3 area near Gudu Market in Abuja on Saturday morning.

The incident was confirmed in a statement issued by Lere Olayinka, Senior Special Assistant on Public Communications and Social Media to the FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike.

According to the statement, “At least five persons have been confirmed dead while 10 others were rescued alive after a three-storey building under construction collapsed in the Durumi 3 area, near Gudu Market, Abuja, on Saturday morning.

Rescue operations still ongoing as emergency responders continue efforts to evacuate more victims believed to be trapped beneath the rubble at the construction site located around Gaduwa Estate in the Gudu district.”

The FCT Mandate Secretary of the Health Services and Environment Secretariat, Dr Adedolapo Fasawe, who visited the scene, said the Minister had ordered immediate medical assistance for all victims.

Dr. Fasawe added that Nyesom Wike had directed that all injured persons receive free treatment, noting that emergency response teams had been fully deployed to manage the situation.

She further explained that rescue and medical personnel were operating under difficult conditions as search efforts continued at the collapsed site.

Emergency responders, including officials of the Federal Fire Service, security agencies, health workers, and local volunteers, were seen at the scene combing through the debris, while anxious residents gathered nearby as operations continued.
