Five die, one injured as car rams into truck in Ogun

Five persons died in an auto crash on Sunday morning when a driver of a Honda car wrongfully overtook a Mack truck along the Ososa junction on the Ijebu-Ode Expressway.

One person also sustained varying degrees of injuries

Involved in the crash were two vehicles – a Honda Accord car and a Mack truck with no registration number.

Spokesperson of the Federal Road Safety Corps, Ogun State, Florence Okpe, confirmed this to newsmen in a statement in Abeokuta on Sunday.

Okpe said that cause of the accident was wrongful overtaking on the part of the driver of the Honda car, who had a side collision with the truck.

She said a total number of eight passengers( seven males, one female) were involved in the crash, five persons( four males and one female) were recorded dead, while one sustained injuries; the remaining two were rescued unhurt.

The chief route commander said that the injured victim had been taken to General Hospital, Ijebu-Ode and the corpses deposited at the same hospital morgue.

The Sector Commander, FRSC Ogun Sector Command, CC Antony Uga described the crash as an avoidable one, if caution was taken.

Uga also advised motorists to stop making quick turning on the expressway and rather use the intersection or the proper turning point.

He sympathised with the family of the victims and advised them to contact FRSC Ijebu-ode Command for more information about the crash.
