Former Air Chief Abubakar Quits Politics

Former Chief of Air Staff and 2023 governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress in Bauchi State, Air Marshal Sadiq Baba Abubakar (retd.), has announced his withdrawal from active politics.

In a post shared on his X handle on Sunday, May 17, 2026, Abubakar said he would no longer take part in political contests and declared that he is no longer affiliated with any political party.

The retired Air Marshal stated that although he is stepping away from partisan politics, he will remain engaged as an ordinary Nigerian contributing in his own way.

He wrote, “I say goodbye to the murky waters of Nigerian politics. I no longer belong to any political party and will therefore not vie for any office.
However, I will continue to support ordinary Nigerians to the best of my ability.”

Abubakar, who joined politics after retiring from the military in 2021, became a prominent opposition figure during the 2023 Bauchi State governorship election, where he contested on the platform of the All Progressives Congress but lost to incumbent Governor Bala Mohammed of the Peoples Democratic Party.

Ahead of the 2027 election cycle, his name had recently surfaced in political circles, with posters linking him to a possible governorship bid under the Action Democratic Party in parts of Bauchi metropolis.
