Fourth Major Typhoon Forces Mass Evacuations in Philippines

As dawn broke over the Philippines’ northeastern coast, residents braced for yet another devastating storm—Typhoon Toraji, the fourth major storm to hit the nation in just one month. With lives already uprooted and recovery efforts ongoing from previous storms, the Philippines government issued an emergency order to evacuate 2,500 villages across vulnerable regions.

Typhoon Toraji made landfall near Dilasag, bringing relentless winds and torrential rainfall, which toppled trees, uprooted power lines, and forced over 8,000 people into emergency shelters.

According to local authorities, no casualties have been reported, though damage assessments are still underway.

Coastal and mountain communities, especially in Aurora, Isabela, Ifugao, and Mountain Province, were hit hardest.

The typhoon’s path across Luzon’s mountainous regions sparked landslides that buried roads and complicated rescue and relief efforts

Typhoon Toraji follows on the heels of a deadly string of storms. Just last week, Typhoon Yinxing devastated northern regions, claiming the life of a young girl. And in the weeks before, Severe Tropical Storm Trami and Super Typhoon Kong-rey together killed 158 people.

Experts warn that climate change is intensifying storm patterns, pushing them closer to coastlines and prolonging their impact on land.
