FRSC Boss Advocates Bearing Arms for Better Enforcement

The Corps Marshal of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Shehu Mohammed, has called for personnel of the corps to be allowed to carry arms, saying it would strengthen their capacity to enforce road safety laws.

Speaking during an interview on Arise Television on Thursday, Mohammed said FRSC officers often face difficulties stopping heavy-duty vehicles, especially trailers carrying passengers and animals.

“It is difficult for the FRSC to stop a trailer or truck on the road, especially those carrying a lot of passengers at the top with animals, and the FRSC only has four men as a team,” he said.

According to him, arming road safety officers would boost their authority and effectiveness.

“Carrying arms will support the personnel to stop trailers with a lot of passengers. Power is cohesion. If you don’t have the power to enforce anything, there’s no way you can achieve that enforcement,” he added.

On the issue of bribery within the corps, the FRSC chief assured that it remains a challenge that will soon be dealt with.
“It’s a matter of time. It will be nipped in the bud,” Mohammed stated.
