Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, has carried out a minor shake‑up in his cabinet, appointing Commissioner for Sports, Christopher Green, as the new Attorney‑General and Commissioner for Justice.
The reshuffle was announced in Port Harcourt on Tuesday, December 30, in a statement issued by the Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Information and Communications, Dr Honour Sirawoo.
Under the new arrangement, Green, a lawyer, will head the Ministry of Justice while still overseeing the Sports Ministry until a new commissioner is named.
According to the statement, “Barrister Green will also continue to coordinate the activities of the Ministry of Sports pending the appointment of a substantive commissioner to oversee the ministry.
“The redeployment takes immediate effect following the approval at the last State Executive Council meeting for the year 2025, underscoring the Governor’s commitment to strengthening governance, ensuring continuity in service delivery and optimising the performance of key ministries within the state.”
The move ends months without a substantive Attorney‑General in Rivers, after the exit of Dagogo Iboroma, SAN.

Iboroma’s position became uncertain following the Supreme Court ruling that recognised Martin Amaewhule as the legitimate Speaker of the state House of Assembly.
He was among commissioners screened by three lawmakers loyal to former factional Speaker Victor Oko‑Jumbo.
Fubara currently has only eight commissioners who were originally cleared by the Amaewhule‑led Assembly before the political crisis in the state escalated.
The redeployment comes as political tension in Rivers continues to rise.
Minister of the Federal Capital Territory and former governor, Nyesom Wike, has been touring local government areas and recently declared that politics will “resume fully” in January 2026.
He has also taken aim at Fubara, warning that declaring support for President Bola Tinubu does not automatically secure a second‑term ticket and accusing the governor of failing to keep political agreements.
