The Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, has approved the appointment of Hon. Benibo Anabraba as the new Secretary to the State Government (SSG).
The appointment was announced on Monday in a statement signed by Dr. Honour Sirawoo, Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Information and Communications.
According to the statement, Anabraba is scheduled to be sworn in today, Monday, October 13, 2025, at 4:00 p.m. in the State Executive Council Chambers, Government House, Port Harcourt.
“The new SSG will be sworn in today, Monday, October 13, 2025, by 4:00 p.m. at the State Executive Council Chambers, Government House, Port Harcourt,” the statement read.
Anabraba’s appointment comes as part of the governor’s efforts to rebuild his administration following his reinstatement to office after months of political turbulence in the state.
President Bola Tinubu had, on March 18, 2025, declared a state of emergency in Rivers State, suspending Fubara, his deputy, and members of the House of Assembly over a protracted political crisis involving the governor and his predecessor, Nyesom Wike.

During the emergency rule, retired Vice Admiral Ibok-Ete Ibas was appointed as Sole Administrator to restore stability. Upon assuming office, Ibas suspended all commissioners, special advisers, and parastatal heads appointed by Fubara and dissolved state boards.
Following the lifting of the emergency rule on September 18, the Rivers State House of Assembly had directed Governor Fubara to submit a new list of commissioner-nominees for screening, alongside the 2025 budget proposal.
Anabraba’s appointment marks one of the first major steps by Fubara to reorganise his cabinet and consolidate his government since returning to power.
