The Vice Chancellor of the Federal University Oye Ekiti (F.U.O.E), Professor Abayomi Fasina, has urged new students to lay a solid foundation for their lives through their actions and choices.
The appeal was made at the matriculation ceremony for 11,327 fresh students held across the Oye Ekiti and Ikole Ekiti campuses, according to a statement issued on Monday by the university’s Public Relations Officer, Foluso Ogunmodede.
In his address titled Building a House on the Solid Rock, Fasina emphasised that only a strong foundation could ensure stability and success. He identified honesty, integrity, curiosity, love for learning, and resilience as key traits for students, noting that challenges are inevitable but can be overcome through perseverance.
“A house that is built on the solid rock will stand strong, while the one built on the ground will fall. Let integrity guide your actions and choices,” Fasina advised.
Describing the matriculation as a covenant with the university, he encouraged students to actively participate in campus life beyond academics, saying, “The university is more than a place for lectures and examinations. You must strive to volunteer, serve in different endeavours, and make yourselves wiser every day.”
