AFCON 2025: Uzoho Says I’m Ready for Super Eagles Duty

Super Eagles goalkeeper Francis Uzoho has declared his readiness for international duty following his recall to the national team ahead of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations.

The News Agency of Nigeria reports that Uzoho was named among three goalkeepers in head coach Eric Chelle’s 28-man squad for the tournament, marking his return to the team after more than a year on the sidelines.

The goalkeeper last featured for Nigeria in a March 2024 international friendly against Ghana and subsequently missed several competitive fixtures.

Speaking in a video interview posted on the official Super Eagles X page on Sunday, Uzoho expressed happiness at rejoining the national team camp and reuniting with his teammates.

He said he missed the camp atmosphere and the bond shared among the players, noting that they had continued to keep in touch despite his absence.

Uzoho described his recall as a moment of joy and relief, adding that representing Nigeria remained his top priority.

He stressed that national team invitations were based on readiness and confidence from the technical crew, noting that players selected by the coaches and scouts were considered fit to contribute.

The goalkeeper also dismissed any talk of rivalry with first-choice goalkeeper Stanley Nwabali, describing him as a close friend and brother, with whom he shares a strong working relationship.

Nigeria will head into the 2025 AFCON seeking to improve on their runners-up finish at the last edition, where the Super Eagles lost 2–1 to hosts Ivory Coast in the final. The team is chasing a fourth continental title, having previously won the tournament in 1980, 1994 and 2013.
