Leaders of the Group of Seven (G7) have issued a joint statement reaffirming their support for Israel’s security as tensions with Iran continue to rise.

The statement underscores Israel’s right to self-defense and calls for a broader de-escalation of violence across the Middle East.

“We affirm that Israel has a right to defend itself. We reiterate our support for the security of Israel,” the statement read.

In addition to backing Israel, the G7 leaders stressed the importance of protecting civilians and called for a ceasefire in Gaza.

Their remarks come amid an intensifying conflict between Iran and Israel, which has already led to significant casualties and raised fears of a wider regional war.

According to multiple reports on Tuesday, the G7 summit held in Canada, was marked by urgency surrounding the Middle East crisis.

U.S. President Donald Trump announced he would leave the summit early to return to Washington in response to the escalating conflict.

“Because of what’s going on in the Middle East, President Trump will be leaving tonight after dinner with Heads of State,” said White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt.

Trump has instructed the U.S. National Security Council to prepare for an emergency meeting in the White House Situation Room.

He also issued a stark warning to Iran, urging leaders in Tehran to enter negotiations.

“Iran is not winning this war, and they should talk… before it’s too late,” Trump stated.

He reiterated that Iran must not be allowed to obtain nuclear weapons, declaring, “IRAN CAN NOT HAVE A NUCLEAR WEAPON.”

Other G7 leaders, including French President Emmanuel Macron and British Prime Minister Keir Starmer, echoed calls for de-escalation. “If the United States can achieve a ceasefire, that’s a very good thing,” Macron said.

Starmer noted there was a “consensus for de-escalation” among the summit participants.

The ongoing conflict has resulted in heavy casualties, with at least 224 deaths reported in Iran and 24 in Israel.

The violence has prompted international concern, with countries such as China and Turkey urging restraint and advocating for diplomatic solutions.

Despite mounting international pressure, both Iran and Israel appear determined to continue their military campaigns.

The G7’s statement highlights the urgent need for a peaceful resolution and renewed efforts to prevent further civilian harm and regional instability.
