Galadima Slams Yusuf’s Defection As Historic Betrayal

A senior figure in the New Nigerian Peoples Party (NNPP), Buba Galadima, has strongly criticised the decision of Kano State Governor, Abba Yusuf, to defect to the All Progressives Congress (APC), describing the move as an unparalleled act of betrayal.

Galadima spoke on Tuesday, the 27th of January, 2026, during an appearance on Prime Time, a current affairs programme aired on Arise Television, where he expressed deep disappointment over the governor’s action.

According to him, the defection was so grievous that it deserved global recognition, suggesting it should be recorded in the Guinness World Records. He further proposed that the 23rd of January, 2026, the day Governor Yusuf resigned from the NNPP should be commemorated annually as World Betrayal Day.

It was earlier reported that Governor Yusuf formally withdrew from the NNPP last Friday before completing his return to the APC on Monday.

Reacting to the development, Galadima accused the governor of acting out of self-interest, insisting that the move amounted to a betrayal of the people of Kano State.

“Governor Yusuf’s defection was done for his personal interest. It is a betrayal to the people of Kano.

“I have grey hairs on my head. I’m well above 75 years of age and if I could shed tears on anything, it must have touched me beyond expression because I don’t give in to sentiments.”

Galadima went further to liken the incident to some of the most infamous betrayals in history, saying:
“This betrayal is the third in the history of humanity. It follows Judas’ betrayal of Jesus, and the second was Brutus against the Caesar,” Galadima said.
