Kano State Governor, Abdullahi Ganduje, has advised the Muhammadu Buhari-led government to ban herdsmen moving from the northern to the southern parts of Nigeria.
He said such a decision would douse the current tension in the country following the activities of killer herdsmen, especially in the Southwest.
Gaduje, who spoke in an interview with BBC, also raised the alarm that some foreign herders had infiltrated the country.
According to him, there are “three categories of Fulani: The Fulani people, the herders, and foreign Fulani herders involved in criminal acts.
“The moment a foreign Fulani herder invades Nigeria and commits a crime, he would be considered as Nigerian Fulani. We need to ban them from entering Nigeria.
“Secondly, herders travelling from North to South should be banned. Those saying they should not be banned from trekking to the southern part of the country for grazing should use their children.”
The governor also implored the National Assembly to quickly enact laws that would put an end to the constant clash between farmers and herders in the country.
