A new chapter in policing has opened for Kano and Jigawa States, as the Nigeria Police Force officially confirmed Assistant Inspector-General (AIG) Garba Ahmed as the new head of Zone One Command, headquartered in Kano.
The appointment was announced through a statement issued by the Zonal Police Public Relations Officer, CSP Bashir Muhammad, who highlighted the wealth of experience AIG Ahmed brings to the role.
A veteran officer with over three decades of service, Ahmed is expected to steer the Zone One Police Command with a strong emphasis on professionalism, discipline, and community engagement.
Born on December 14, 1966, in Kafur Local Government Area of Katsina State, Ahmed holds a Bachelor’s degree in History from Bayero University, Kano, and a Master’s degree in Public Administration from the University of Maiduguri.
His policing journey began in 1992 as a Cadet Assistant Superintendent, and since then, he has served in key capacities across several states including Lagos, Abuja, Enugu, Gombe, Kaduna, and Borno.
Before this latest posting, he was stationed at the Force Headquarters as an Assistant Inspector-General.
Renowned for his deep knowledge of criminal justice and community policing, AIG Ahmed has undergone specialized training both locally and internationally—including a stint at the International Law Enforcement Academy (ILEA) in the United States.
His expertise spans investigation, surveillance, crisis management, and conflict resolution.

In his first address as Zonal AIG, Ahmed appealed to residents of Kano and Jigawa to work closely with the police by providing timely and actionable intelligence to help curb crime.
He also warned against mob justice, urging citizens to trust the law enforcement system.
“I will not condone corruption in any form,” Ahmed stated. “We must restore public trust in the police, and that begins with transparency, accountability, and ethical conduct.”
He further pledged to deepen community partnership policing and ensure that officers under his command operate within the framework of fairness, discipline, and respect for human rights.
Zone One Command encompasses Kano and Jigawa States, two areas of strategic security interest in northern Nigeria.
As AIG Ahmed settles into his role, expectations are high that his experience and leadership will translate into improved security and public confidence in law enforcement.
