Ghana’s tallest man, Abdul-Samed Sulemana, popularly known as Awuche, has died at the age of 33.
Sulemana died on Monday, July 27, 2026, at the Tamale Teaching Hospital after battling complications associated with gigantism.
Standing at approximately 7 feet 4 inches (2.23 metres), he became widely known in Ghana and beyond because of his extraordinary height.

His health deteriorated in early July after an infection in his left leg worsened, raising fears that amputation might be necessary. He subsequently sought help for urgent treatment.
Businessman Ibrahim Mahama later offered to fund his medical care. Although doctors reportedly determined that amputation was not necessary, Sulemana died at the Tamale Teaching Hospital on Monday.
His remarkable height had previously attracted widespread attention, particularly after a 2022 measurement put him at approximately 7 feet 4 inches.
Sulemana’s death has sparked mourning in Ghana, where he was remembered for his extraordinary stature and resilience in the face of prolonged health challenges.
