Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, has accused the All Progressives Congress of sponsoring armed thugs who allegedly invaded the palace of the Ataoja of Osogbo, Oba Jimoh Olanipekun Larooye II.
In a statement issued late Saturday night, June 13, 2026, Adeleke said the monarch was targeted after endorsing his re-election bid, a move he claimed provoked anger within opposition ranks.
He alleged that gunmen stormed the palace and opened fire, leaving the traditional ruler and other residents caught in the attack.
Quoting the Ataoja, the governor said the monarch was shot at inside his palace and some residents sustained injuries.
Adeleke described the incident as an assault on the Osogbo traditional institution and a threat to public peace, calling for immediate intervention by security agencies.
He urged the Inspector-General of Police to investigate the incident and also appealed to Ajibola Bashiru, APC National Secretary and an indigene of Osogbo, to rein in members of his party.

The monarch called for calm and urged political actors to settle disputes through lawful and democratic processes.
