Governor Ademola Adeleke has formally resigned from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), ending months of speculation about his strained relationship with the party’s national leadership.
In a statement posted on his Instagram page late Monday, December 1, Adeleke said his decision was driven by the unending leadership disputes at the top ranks of the PDP.
“Due to the ongoing crisis within the leadership of the People’s Democratic Party at the national level, I officially conveyed my resignation letter as a member to the party leadership in Sagba Abogunde, Ward 2, Ede North Local Government on November 4, 2025,” the governor said.
Adeleke confirmed that he forwarded his letter to party executives in his ward nearly a month before making the announcement public.
He expressed gratitude to the party for the platform it gave him to rise politically.

“I thank the party and its many members and supporters for the opportunities they have provided me, first as a Senator of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, and now as Governor of Osun State,” he said.
His resignation comes amid continuing internal battles within the PDP, which has struggled for months with factional disputes, lawsuits, and conflicting national directives.
First Daily earlier reported that party officials in Osun had earlier hinted that Adeleke might withdraw from seeking the PDP’s ticket for the 2026 governorship election unless the prolonged crisis at the national level was resolved.
The state chapter had expressed optimism that a settlement acknowledged by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) might persuade the governor to reconsider his political future within the party.
Adeleke’s exit marks a major blow to the PDP in Osun State, where he remains one of the party’s most prominent figures and its first elected governor in nearly a decade.
