Gov Buni Elected Lake Chad Basin Govs’ Forum Chairman

Governor Mai Mala Buni of Yobe State has been elected as the new chairman of the Lake Chad Basin Governors’ Forum.

His appointment was confirmed on Friday during the forum’s extraordinary meeting in Maiduguri, Borno State.

The forum’s discussions focused on the theme, “Rebuilding the Lake Chad Basin: Strengthening Progress, Commitment to Peace, Cross-Border Cooperation, Security, and Sustainable Development for a Resilient Community,” aiming to tackle the persistent challenges of insecurity, poverty, and economic instability in the region.

In his inaugural speech, Buni expressed sincere gratitude to his fellow governors for placing their trust in him.

He also recognised President Bola Tinubu for his unwavering dedication to fostering peace and development across the Lake Chad Basin.

“I would like to begin by extending my heartfelt thanks and deep appreciation from the people and government of Yobe State to all my esteemed colleagues, the governors of the Lake Chad Basin, delegates, and every stakeholder for their attendance and valuable contributions, making this event a remarkable success,” Buni remarked.

He emphasised the importance of turning the forum’s resolutions into action, highlighting the necessity for collaborative efforts, resource mobilization, and unwavering support to meet shared objectives.

Buni also expressed his determination to partner with fellow leaders and development organisations to advance sustainable social and economic growth in the region.

Additionally, he acknowledged the work of the outgoing chairperson, Ildjima Abdraman, and expressed his best wishes to all participants as they returned to their respective locations.
