Gov Umo Eno Hails Restoration of Night Flights at Uyo Airport

Akwa Ibom State Governor, Umo Eno, has lauded the Nigerian Airspace Management Agency (NAMA) and the Board of the Ibom Airport Development Company for the successful restoration of night operations at the Victor Attah International Airport, Uyo.

The governor had earlier directed the Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of the Ibom Airport Development Company, Mr. Uwem Ekanem, and the board to ensure full restoration of the airport’s airfield lighting system before September 30, 2025.

In a statement released on Thursday by his Chief Press Secretary, Ekerete Udoh, Governor Eno expressed satisfaction that the directive was carried out within the stipulated deadline.

“With the successful calibration and overhaul of the navigational aids and the restoration of the lighting systems at the Victor Attah International Airport, the sunrise-to-sunset restrictions previously imposed have been lifted. Night flight operations, therefore, have been restored with immediate effect,” the governor said.

He commended NAMA for its role in the exercise and assured that the state government would continue to invest in the aviation sector to ensure that the Maintenance, Repair and Overhaul (MRO) facility, international terminal, and other ongoing projects are completed ahead of the festive season.

The statement also emphasized the importance of the development to Akwa Ibom’s tourism drive, noting that unhindered flight operations by Ibom Air would facilitate the movement of tourists and business travelers.

“Tourism remains a major plank of the ARISE Agenda, and with the planned commissioning of the Arise Resorts in December, the restoration of night flight operations will further position Akwa Ibom as a tourism hub of the nation,” the governor added.
