Gov Umo Eno: My Late Wife Inspired 40% Women Inclusion in Govt

…hails daughter for sustaining First Lady’s legacy through GIFA

Akwa Ibom State Governor, Umo Eno, has attributed his administration’s commitment to appointing more women into public office to the advocacy of his late wife, Mrs. Patience Eno, who consistently championed 40 percent female inclusion in governance.

Speaking at the first-anniversary celebration of the Golden Initiative For All (GIFA)—a pet project of the late First Lady—held at Ibom Hall, Uyo, the governor highlighted her significant influence in shaping policies that empower women, particularly at the grassroots level.

Governor Eno praised his daughter, Noble Lady Helen Eno Obareki, for taking up the mantle as Coordinator of the Office of the First Lady and sustaining her mother’s vision through GIFA.

“Let me congratulate my dear daughter, Noble Lady Helen Obareki, for stepping up and taking charge of this great initiative. The impact has been deeply felt, and we are all proud of you,” the governor stated.

Reflecting on his late wife’s dedication to gender inclusion, Governor Eno recalled her persistent appeals for women’s participation in governance.

“I can recall the First Lady’s passionate advocacy for 40 percent women inclusion in government. Many of the women in public office today owe their appointments to her interventions,” he said.

He reiterated his administration’s commitment to gender equality, assuring that more policies would be introduced to support women’s empowerment across the state.

The event also served as a tribute to the late First Lady’s legacy, with stakeholders commending GIFA’s impact on enhancing family life and supporting the underprivileged in Akwa Ibom State.
