Grey’s Anatomy Star Eric Dane Dies At 53

Eric Dane, the American actor best known for his roles on Grey’s Anatomy and Euphoria, has died at the age of 53 after a battle with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, his family said.

He passed away on Thursday, February 19, 2026, the family announced in a statement released later that day. Dane is survived by his wife, actress Rebecca Gayheart, and their two daughters.

Dane’s representatives confirmed the announcement of his death saying he died from complications related to ALS, a progressive neurological disease also known as Lou Gehrig’s disease.

He had publicly revealed his diagnosis in April 2025 and spent the months that followed raising awareness about the condition.

In the statement, his family said Dane “spent his final days surrounded by dear friends, his devoted wife, and their two daughters, Billie and Georgia, who were the center of his world.”

He later gained a new generation of fans with his portrayal of Cal Jacobs on HBO’s Euphoria.

Born in 1972 in Northern California, Dane began his acting career in the early 1990s with guest appearances on shows such as Saved by the Bell and The Wonder Years. Over his career, he appeared in films and numerous television projects.

After his ALS diagnosis became public, Dane used his platform to speak about the realities of the disease and advocate for increased research funding and support for others living with ALS.
