A coalition of registered voters in the South-East has launched a grassroots mobilization platform, the Village Boys Movement (VBM), targeting one million new voters in rural communities ahead of the 2027 general election.
The group also declared support for a proposed joint presidential ticket involving Peter Obi and Rabiu Kwankwaso.
The initiative was unveiled on Thursday, May 28, 2026, in Enugu at a stakeholders’ meeting convened by Chief Maxi Okwu, former National Chairman of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) and convener of the South-East Village Boys for Obi/Kwankwaso (OK).
Okwu said the movement is a non-partisan platform designed to deepen voter participation in rural communities.
He stressed that VBM is not a political party but an inclusive support structure open to Nigerians across party lines and gender.
According to him, the goal is to boost voter registration and turnout ahead of the January 13, 2027 presidential election through sustained grassroots engagement.

He explained that the “Village Boys” concept reflects a village-based strategy for driving electoral participation from the grassroots upward.
Okwu added that the group will prioritise voter vigilance, insisting that lessons from the 2023 election highlight the need for stronger vote protection.
“We believe Peter Obi won the last election; this time, we want to ensure that every vote counts and is protected,” he said.
Secretary-General of the movement, Rev. Christopher Obioha, said VBM will tackle voter apathy through registration drives, civic sensitization, polling unit coordination, and election monitoring.
Obioha noted that the movement, though rooted in the South-East, has recorded over 570 sign-ups within one week from Germany, South Africa, the United Kingdom, the United States, Lagos, and Kaduna.
He added that the group is not a replacement for existing political organizations but a grassroots complement focused on physical mobilization rather than online campaigns.
