A group, Coalition for Peace and Progress (CPP), has urged the All Progressives Congress and presidential candidate, Bola Tinubu, to pick former House of Reps speaker, Yakubu Dogara, as the party vice presidential candidate.
According to them, Dogara is the best person suited for the position considering the diverse nature of the country.
“To ensure a sense of fairness and belonging, it is most appropriate that the person be picked as the APC presidential running mate must be someone who has the required qualities.* the National Coordinator, Dr Muhammad Chindo said in a press conference held at the Nigeria Union of Journalists Secretariat, Kaduna State on Saturday.
He reiterated that it was imperative that the future vice president must be a Christian who could transcend primordial sentiments bordering on religion, and the twin evils of tribalism and sectionalism.
The group said, “Such a person must also be a good Christian who could promote the cause of unity and togetherness among the diverse and heterogeneous citizens of our great country.
“The coalition has taken into consideration a number of factors. As a member of the Federal House of Representatives and speaker of the honourable house from 2007 until he voluntarily agreed to step down, Dogara has the required political experience and Knowledge more than any other possible choice currently being proposed.
“He is a grassroots politician who was trusted and tested by his constituency, who was elected for four consecutive times. He is a bridge builder. He enjoys the confidence of his Dads/Tafawa Balewa/ Bogoro constituency that’s made up of diverse people belonging to different religions and tribes.”
