Gunmen have abducted Mr Francis Igwe, father of former Deputy Governor of Ebonyi State, Kelechi Igwe, in a brazen attack that has heightened security concerns in the state.
The incident occurred on Sunday morning, March 1, 2026, when the elderly man was reportedly on his way to church in Ndufu-Alike, Ikwo Local Government Area of Ebonyi State.
Community sources said the assailants, who were riding a motorcycle, intercepted his vehicle along the route, forcefully removed him and fled to an undisclosed destination.

The attack caused panic in the usually quiet community, as residents expressed shock over the development.
Local authorities have confirmed the abduction, while security agencies are said to have commenced coordinated efforts to locate the victim and secure his safe return.
As of press time, there was no official confirmation of any ransom demand, and the identity and motive of the abductors remain unknown.
The kidnapping has renewed concerns over incidents targeting prominent individuals and their relatives, as security operatives intensify investigations into the case.
