Gunmen Attack Plateau Mining Site, Kill Three, Injure Two

No fewer than three persons were killed and two others injured on Tuesday after unidentified gunmen attacked a mining site in Nyango, Gyel District, Jos South Local Government Area of Plateau State.

The attack reportedly occurred at about 11:50 a.m. when the assailants stormed the mining site and opened fire on workers, leaving multiple casualties before fleeing the scene.

Reacting to the incident, the Berom Youth Moulders-Association (BYM) condemned the attack and expressed concern over the recurring insecurity in Gyel and surrounding communities.

In a statement issued by its National Publicity Secretary, Rwang Tengwong, the group described the latest assault as another disturbing episode in a series of violent attacks that have plagued the area.

According to the association, residents of Gyel and neighbouring communities in Bassa Local Government Area have repeatedly raised concerns over persistent attacks allegedly carried out by armed elements operating around the Gyero and Rafin Buna axis.

The group said the recurring violence has continued to claim lives, displace residents and disrupt economic activities, particularly mining and farming.

BYM called on security agencies and relevant government authorities to take urgent steps to dismantle criminal hideouts and end the cycle of attacks in the affected communities.

It urged the authorities to strengthen security presence in the area and ensure that those responsible for the killings are apprehended and brought to justice.

The association also appealed to the government to take proactive measures to restore lasting peace and protect the lives and livelihoods of residents across the affected communities.
