Gunmen invade Ebonyi village, kill policeman

A policeman was killed on Tuesday when some gunmen invaded Onueke community in the Ezza South Local Government Area of Ebonyi State.

FirstNews gathered that three residents were also shot during the incident, which took place around 4pm.

Sources said the deceased and his colleagues were trying to repel the gunmen from attacking the village when he was shot dead.

The gunmen were said to have first attacked a residence of a native doctor identified as Azuoba, near the ongoing airport project of Ebonyi State Government, where they allegedly damaged vehicles and other property in his compound.

Thereafter, they trailed another person to a new generation bank at Onueke and shot him.

Some residents, however, said two policemen were killed in the raid.

But the state’s Commissioner for Internal Security and Border Peace, Hon Stanley Okoro Emegha, confirmed that only one policeman was killed in the attack.

He, however, stated that the attack was not perpetrated by the outlawed Indigenous People of Biafra.
