Terror struck residents of Grow Homes Estate in the Chikakore area of Kubwa, Abuja, when heavily armed gunmen suspected to be kidnappers invaded the estate in the early hours of Monday, holding occupants hostage for over an hour.
The attack, which occurred between 12:00 a.m. and 1:30 a.m., saw the assailants breach the community’s security, overpowering the local vigilante group before reportedly abducting at least one person.
A resident confirmed that a man and a woman were initially taken by the attackers.
However, the woman was later found within the estate after being released by the assailants for reasons yet unknown.
The total number of abducted persons has not been confirmed.
The police arrived at about 1 a.m., leading to a fierce gun battle with the kidnappers that lasted approximately 30 minutes.

The incident has heightened concerns about the community’s safety and the need for better infrastructure and security presence.
Residents are calling on the government to rehabilitate the access road to the estate to ensure quicker security response in emergencies.
They also urged the FCT Administration to establish a police station in the area to improve rapid intervention in future incidents.
The FCT Police Command has yet to release an official statement regarding the attack as investigations continue.
