Heartbreak for Sunday Oliseh as Younger Brother Uche Dies at 51

Former Super Eagles captain and ex-head coach Sunday Oliseh is in mourning following the death of his younger brother, Uche Levi Oliseh, who succumbed to malaria at the age of 51.

The Oliseh family confirmed the tragic news in a statement released on Saturday, revealing that Uche passed away on June 17 after a short illness.

Describing him as “kind-spirited” and “full of life,” the family said Uche was a deeply loved figure who will be remembered for his warmth and devotion.

“Uche was a cherished member of our family… He is survived by his four children, his parents, and siblings, including Churchill Oliseh and his immediate elder brother, Sunday Oliseh,” the statement read.

The former Nigerian football legend, known for his fierce leadership on the pitch, showed a more vulnerable side in a heartfelt post on X (formerly Twitter):

“Sadly, I lost my brother, Uche Levi Oliseh, on Thursday after a brief illness with malaria fever. It hurts so bad, like I have never felt before,” Sunday wrote.

“I have over a million things that I would wanna talk, laugh and do with Uche, but sadly I cannot anymore.”

The message has struck a chord with fans and colleagues across the country, many of whom are expressing shock and offering condolences to the Oliseh family.

Despite his relatively private life, Uche remained a respected figure within the Oliseh circle.

His passing has highlighted ongoing concerns about malaria-related deaths in Nigeria, a disease that continues to claim thousands of lives each year despite being preventable and treatable.

The family has asked for prayers and privacy as they process the loss and plan final rites. Funeral details have not yet been made public.
