There is heavy presence of security operatives around the Cathedral Church Of Christ, Marina, Lagos State, where the funeral service of the former Head of Interim Government, Chief Ernest Shonekan, is being held.
Vice President Yemi Osinbajo led the Federal Government delegation to the funeral.
Also in attendance include the Secretary to the Government of Federation, Boss Mustapha, Minister of Information Lai Mohammed, Former Head Of State Yakubu Gowon, the Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, Ogun State Governor Dapo Abiodun, the Governor of Edo State, Godwin Obaseki, as well as former Governor of Ogun State, Ibikunle Amosun.
Due to the funeral, the Lagos State government had announced a 13-hour closure of roads leading to Marina.
Late Shonekan served as the head of the Interim National Government between August and November 1993.
He was born on May 9, 1936, in Lagos into the family of an Abeokuta-born civil servant, and at school age attended the CMS Grammar School and Igbobi College.
Chief Shonekan also received a law degree from the University of London and was called to the bar.
He later attended Harvard Business School.
The late Head of Interim Government died on the 11th of January 2022 at the age of 86.
