Ondo State Peoples Democratic Party governorship candidate, Mr. Eyitayo Jegede (SAN) has appealed to the traditional institution in the state to help prevail on some politicians with violent tendencies, to retrace their steps.
Jegede said the appeal became expedient in view of recent vindictive attacks by some politicians on political opponents, of which he was a victim.
A statement by Head, Media Research, Eyitayo Jegede Campaign Organisation, Kayode Fasua, said the Ondo PDP governorship candidate made the appeal at the weekend, when he visited the Olowo of Owo, Oba Gbadegesin Ogunoye, to felicitate with him on the occasion of annual Ero and Igogo Festivals, which held in the ancient town.
He said, “I want to plead with you, our fathers, to help appeal to these politicians to eschew violence and abstain from any act that can result in shedding of blood before, during and after the election.
“There is no election that is worth violence or bloodshed because election should not be seen as a do or die afair at all.”
Describing Owo as an ancient town reputed for rich cultural heritage and inimitable traditions, Jegede said the community could also hardly be matched in the number of eminent Nigerians it had produced.
“Kabiyesi, I did not come here to campaign but I came to greet you and the good people of Owo Kingdom, as you celebrate this year’s Ero and Igogo Festivals.
“I pray God will allow peace to continue reigning during your time in Owo and the rest of Ondo State,” he prayed.
Responding, the Olowo, Oba Ogunoye, commended Jegede for the visit and said, “No doubt, we know you are our own.
“We have heard a lot about your good behaviour and the consummate manner you have been relating with people.
“As we are preparing for the forthcoming gubernatorial election, my candid advice to the politicians is that, they should allow the public to decide who governs them and not through coercion.
“You are a true son of the soil; so you are eminently qualified for the position (of governor).
“Let’s leave everything for God to handle and allow peace to reign in Ondo State,” the monarch counselled.
