Hilda Baci Shatters Guinness Record with World’s Largest Jollof Rice Serving

Nigeria’s culinary queen, Hilda Baci, has once again etched her name in the Guinness World Records—this time for creating the largest serving of Nigerian-style jollof rice, weighing a staggering 8,780 kilogrammes (19,356 lb 9 oz).

The feat, achieved in collaboration with Gino on Victoria Island, Lagos, was officially confirmed by Guinness World Records on Monday. Taking to X (formerly Twitter), the record body announced:

“New record: Largest serving of Nigerian style jollof rice – 8,780 kg (19,356 lb 9 oz) achieved by Hilda Baci and Gino in Victoria Island, Lagos, Nigeria.”

Baci, who shot to global fame after her record-breaking cook-a-thon in 2023, once again turned the spotlight on Nigerian cuisine, drawing massive support from fans, celebrities, and dignitaries.

Ahead of the attempt, the chef revealed that the specially crafted pot used for the event could hold 22,619 litres, with her aim being to fill it up to 80 percent.

She estimated needing more than 5,200 kilogrammes of raw rice but later explained that she cooked about 200 bags (4,000 kg) to remain within the weighing scale’s capacity.

“If you notice when we started, we weighed the pot and every ingredient going into it. My goal was to hit between 17,000 to 18,000 kilogrammes including the pot, which brings us close to 20,000,” Baci told journalists.

The event was a lively spectacle. Nollywood star Funke Akindele joined Baci on stage to stir the rice, while Ogun State First Lady Bamidele Abiodun also turned up to show support.

The crowd was further thrilled by appearances from Kaffy, Tomike Adeoye, Enioluwa, Veekee James, Tacha, Spyro, Alex Unusual, and others.

Guinness World Records had earlier cheered Baci on during the challenge, posting a video message that read: “Best of luck to @hildabacicooks who’s attempting a new record for the largest serving of Nigerian-style jollof rice today.”

By the end of the day, the mountain of jollof rice cooked by Baci was enough to feed 20,000 people—transforming the venue into a carnival of food, music, and celebration.

With this latest achievement, Hilda Baci has not only cemented her status as a record-setter but also reaffirmed Nigerian jollof rice as a global culinary icon.
