Kendrick Lamar is poised to make history as the first rapper to headline a Super Bowl halftime show entirely on his own.
The National Football League, Roc Nation, and Apple Music confirmed on the 8th of September 2024, that the award-winning artist from California will take center stage at the 2025 Super Bowl halftime show, set to take place on the 9th of February in New Orleans.
“Kendrick is truly a once-in-a-generation artist and performer,” Jay-Z, the founder of Roc Nation, said in a statement.
“He has an unparalleled ability to define and influence culture globally. (His)work transcends music, and his impact will be felt for years to come.”
In response to the exciting news of his upcoming performance, Lamar emphasized the enduring power of rap, underscoring its continued relevance and dominance in the music industry.
“Rap music is still the most impactful genre to date. And I’ll be there to remind the world why. They got the right one,” he said.
The 17-time Grammy winner graced the Super Bowl stage once before, performing in 2022 as part of a historic hip-hop showcase.
Lamar’s anticipated headlining gig arrives amidst an ongoing feud with fellow rapper Drake, who once boasted about his stature being comparable to the Super Bowl itself in one of his tracks.
