Commercial activities were temporarily suspended at Odeyale village in Ona Ara Local Government Area of Oyo State when hoodlums reportedly unleashed terror on some operatives of the State Security Network code named Amotekun and some conventional police officers.
Four operatives of the Amotekun, who were reportedly injured during the attack, are receiving treatment at the Intensive Care Unit of the University College Hospital, Ibadan.
Confirming the incident, the Commandant of the corps, Col. Olayinka Olayanju (rtd) in a statement said the operatives moved to the area following a distress call by the Odeyale Community Landlords Association to help dislodge hoodlums unleashing violence on the community.
He said the otherratives were attacked with machetes and axes, adding that four of them who sustained severe injuries were currently receiving treatment at the ICU of the UCH.
He said the corps had already commenced investigation into the incident.
Though some policemen were also attacked along with the Amotekun operatives, state Police Public Relations Officer, Olugbenga Fadeyi, was unavailable for comment.
The statement read, “Operatives and police officers were attacked by hoodlums at Ona Ara Local Government Area of Oyo State.
“The incidence was a follow-up to a distress call by Odeyale Community Landlords Association, who called for help today from the two security outfits to help in dislodging the hoodlums in their neighborhood.
“The coordinator of Amotekun operations at Ona Ara, Mr Adelakun said that the hoodlums attacked them with machetes and axes, and four of the operatives were severely wounded and are in intensive care at the University College Hospital (UCH) for treatment.
“Investigation is still ongoing.”
