Six students from Federal University, Lokoja, and their driver tragically died on Monday afternoon after an articulated vehicle collided with their school shuttle bus.
The incident occurred around 2:30 pm at the Felele area of Lokoja. An eyewitness reported that the articulated vehicle, loaded with wood and palm oil, was heading toward Abuja when its driver reportedly lost control, causing it to crash into the shuttle bus.
The bus, which was filled with students on their way to the school’s permanent site, was crushed in the impact.
Federal Road Safety Commission (FRSC) officers responded swiftly, rescuing victims trapped under the vehicle.

Mr. Samuel Oyedeji, State Sector Commandant of the FRSC, confirmed that although he could not provide an exact number of fatalities, the injured were taken to Federal Teaching Hospital and Kogi State Specialist Hospital in Lokoja.
The bodies of the deceased were deposited at the hospitals’ mortuaries for identification.
