No fewer than eight people are said to have been killed and a bride abducted after gunmen suspected to be bandits, Saturday night, attacked over 10 communities in Niger State.
Several people, it was gathered, also sustained varying degrees of injuries.
The bandits, over 100 of them, invaded the communities sacking residents in Lavun Local Government Area of the state.
Communities in the LGA attacked include Egbako, Ndaruka, Ebbo, Ndagbegi, Tshogi, Gogata and Ndakogitu.
A resident of Ndakogitu community who would not want his name mentioned, said the bandits after attacking a wedding ceremony, abducted the bride and another girl.
“They came into our community and went to the venue of a wedding, they stole all the monies realized at the wedding ceremony, including other valuables were also snatched,” The source said.
The terrorists were said to have also rustled a number of cattle belonging to the villagers.
At least 5,000 persons, it was learnt, got displaced as a result of the attack which lasted all through Saturday night to Sunday.
The criminals, meanwhile, were unable to escape with the cattle they rustled because the only bridge linking the community with Akare had collapsed.
They, however, killed some locals as they engaged vigilance groups in the communities who mobilised themselves and confronted them.
The attack was confirmed by the state’s Commissioner for Local Government and Internal Security, Emmanuel Umar, who said he was yet to get the details of the incident.
