A 55-year-old woman, identified only as Ifeoma, tragically passed away after collapsing while sharing a testimony during a Sunday service at a church in the Ejigbo area of Lagos State.
The incident occurred around 8:48 a.m. on September 8, 2024.
According to reports, Ifeoma had stepped forward during the testimony hour, singing songs of gratitude, when she suddenly collapsed. Despite immediate efforts to save her, she was pronounced dead a few minutes later at a hospital.
The Lagos State Police Command spokesperson, Benjamin Hundeyin, confirmed the incident to PUNCH Online on Wednesday. He said, “The zonal accountant of the church in Ejigbo came to the station and reported that during testimony hour in the church, while the service was on, Ifeoma came out singing songs to give her testimony when she suddenly slumped.”
Ifeoma was rushed to a nearby hospital but was referred to the General Hospital in Isolo, where doctors confirmed her death. Hundeyin further explained that after detectives visited the hospital, they were informed that Ifeoma’s family had already taken her body to Anambra State, her place of origin, for burial.
The tragic incident has left the church community in shock, as they mourn the sudden loss of a congregant during what was meant to be a moment of celebration.
