Hunter Accidentally Shoots Himself in Ogun, Five Arrested

A hunting expedition in Ajinawo, Yewa North Local Government Area of Ogun State, turned tragic when a hunter, Taiwo Bolugbe, accidentally shot himself, leading to his death.

The incident occurred when Bolugbe’s dane gun reportedly slipped from his shoulder while he was trying to retrieve a hunted animal. The firearm accidentally discharged, striking him in the lower jaw.

Confirming the incident in a statement on Tuesday, the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Omolola Odutola, said the police received a report about the fatal accident at around 4:30 p.m. on March 23, 2025.

Efforts by his five fellow hunters to save his life proved unsuccessful, as he succumbed to his injuries.

“The Ogun State Police Command has launched an investigation into the tragic shooting incident that claimed the life of a hunter during a group hunting expedition at Ajinawo, Yewa North Local Government Area,” Odutola stated.

She further disclosed that all five hunters who accompanied Bolugbe on the expedition had been arrested in connection with the incident.

“The case has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) for further investigation. The Police Command urges the public to exercise caution when handling firearms, even during hunting activities, to prevent such tragedies,” she added.
