Nigerian disc jockey and heiress, Florence Ifeoluwa Otedola, popularly known as DJ Cuppy, has opened up about a painful encounter with a so-called “helper” whose hidden agenda was to exploit her access to wealth and influence.

Sharing her story on X (formerly Twitter), the daughter of billionaire mogul Femi Otedola revealed that she once mistook manipulative tactics for genuine support. According to her, the individual in question initially presented themselves as a kind and supportive friend, giving her a sense of care and encouragement during a time she likely needed it. But their true intentions surfaced over time.

Cuppy disclosed that the person eventually made demands—asking either for money or, more blatantly, an introduction to her influential father. It was at that moment she realized the “support” had been nothing more than a calculated move to get closer to the Otedola fortune.

“I felt so stupid,” she admitted, describing her disappointment and regret. “It’s true what they say: there’s no such thing as a free lunch.”

In a tone both reflective and cautionary, DJ Cuppy urged her fans and followers to be more discerning in their relationships. “Learn from me… Not everything that looks like support comes from a good place,” she warned.

Known for her openness and vulnerability online, DJ Cuppy’s post adds to a growing archive of her personal reflections.

Recently, she also acknowledged the privilege of her upbringing, stating that it took time to fully understand the extent of her financial security. Grateful for what she calls a “luxury lifestyle,” the Oxford graduate continues to inspire followers with her blend of honesty and humility.

While DJ Cuppy’s revelation may be surprising to some, it serves as a powerful reminder: even those born into wealth and fame are not immune to being used under the guise of friendship.
