Former Minister of Aviation, Femi Fani-Kayode, says he paid a visit to former President Goodluck Jonathan on Tuesday evening in his Abuja residence.
“My team and I had the honour and privilege of spending a wonderful evening with President Goodluck Jonathan in his Abuja home last night. None like him,” he tweeted on Wednesday.
The former minister’s visit to Jonathan followed his meeting with All Progressives Congress chieftains, including its Caretaker Chairman, Mai Mala Buni; and Kogi State Governor, Yahaya Bello, in Abuja.
Pictures of Fani-Kayode, who is a member of the opposition Peoples Democratic Party, discussing at the meeting with the APC bigwigs surfaced online on Monday.
This fuelled speculations about the former minister’s plan to defect to the ruling APC.
It was, however, learnt that although the APC leadership had been wooing Fani-Kayode, the former minister had yet to make any commitment.
But many members of the APC, including Bashir Ahmad, an aide to President Muhamamdu Buhari; the Director-General of the Progressives Governors Forum, Salihu Lukman; amongst others, have kicked against the development, warning the APC against admitting Fani-Kayode into the party.
The former minister has been a virulent critic of the APC and the Buhari administration, but his recent hobnob with the party bigwigs came as a surprise to many Nigerians.
But Fani-Kayode himself has since said there was nothing wrong with his meeting with the APC chieftains to discuss the “state of the nation, national issues, party politics and the way forward.”
