I Weep for Rivers: Secondus Warns of Impending Crisis Under Ibas

Prince Uche Secondus, the former National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), has expressed deep sorrow for his home state, Rivers.

In a poignant Easter message, he lamented the state’s turmoil, blaming the actions of Sole Administrator Ibok-Ete Ibas for pushing Rivers to the brink of disaster. Secondus said the state’s current situation resembles a gunpowder keg, ready to explode at any moment.

He shared these concerns through his Special Adviser on Media, Ike Abonyi, calling on President Bola Tinubu to dismiss misguided counsel and reinstate Governor Siminalayi Fubara, who, according to Secondus, holds the people’s mandate.

“The President should be guided by the voice of reason and restore Governor Siminalayi Fubara, who has the mandate of the people,” Secondus urged.

He continued with a heavy heart, stating, “The Sole Administrator’s actions have placed Rivers State on a keg of gunpowder, and I weep for my state. Sadly, Rivers has found itself on the wrong side of history due to one man’s attempt to control its resources and governance.”

Secondus also took a moment to commend the Ijaw nation for their patience and restraint, acknowledging their significance as the fourth largest ethnic group in Nigeria.

“I extend my special appreciation to the Ijaw nation, its leaders, and people, for managing the provocation with dignity.”

The former PDP Chairman concluded his message by urging Christians to reflect the love and humility of Christ during the Easter season.

“Easter reminds us of brotherly love, peaceful co-existence, tolerance, honesty, humility, justice, equity, and fairness to all, as taught in the Scriptures,” he said.

This comes just days after the Ad-Hoc Committee on Rivers State invited Ibas to engage in a dialogue about the state’s governance.

In response to the ongoing political crisis in Rivers, President Tinubu had earlier declared a state of emergency, suspending Governor Fubara, his deputy, and members of the state assembly. Shortly thereafter, Ibas was appointed as the state’s administrator.
