Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, declared his steadfastness in addressing the state’s political challenges while expressing gratitude to stakeholders of the Ikwerre ethnic nationality for their support.
Speaking at a gathering at the Government House in Port Harcourt, Fubara underscored the importance of gratitude and responsibility in governance amidst ongoing criticisms.
“I want to also say this: Fubara is not an ungrateful person,” Governor Fubara emphasized, addressing concerns about his leadership.
“If I were a bad person, you can’t hide a character that is bad for too long. Even your own child will eventually rebel against falsehood.”
Fubara, while appreciating the solidarity visit of Ikwerre leaders, refrained from directly addressing political disputes but emphasized his administration’s commitment to development across Ikwerre’s four local government areas.
He commended the delegation for their unwavering support and pledged to uphold fairness and respect in governance.
“What kind of support again do I need when their fathers are here with me?” Fubara rhetorically questioned, acknowledging the profound endorsement from Ikwerre leaders. He assured the gathering of his commitment to equitable governance and non-oppressive policies.
“I assure you that we are going to work together for the progress and development of our state,” Governor Fubara affirmed.
“Our government will give equal opportunity to everybody, and I will not by any means oppress anybody.”
In a gesture of goodwill, Fubara announced a N100 million donation for the operations of Ogbakor Ikwerre and gifted a car to the President-General of the organization.
The President-General, Eze Godspower Onuekwa, reiterated Ikwerre’s staunch support for the governor’s administration, highlighting ongoing development projects in the region.
Meanwhile, Eze Chike Worlu Wodo, Chairman of Rivers State Council of Traditional Rulers, urged Governor Fubara to maintain focus amid challenges and assured him of Ikwerre’s solidarity.
The gathering concluded with renewed commitments to unity and progress in Rivers State, as Governor Fubara reiterated his aspiration for a legacy of peaceful governance and equitable development.
