The All Progressives Congress (APC) has dismissed the recent opposition gathering in Ibadan, declaring that efforts to unseat President Bola Tinubu in 2027 will fail.
In a statement issued on Sunday, April 26, by its Oyo State Publicity Secretary, Wasiu Sadare, the party described the summit of opposition figures as a futile exercise with no realistic electoral prospects.
The meeting, held on Saturday, April 25, in Ibadan, was hosted by Seyi Makinde and brought together prominent opposition leaders, including former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, former Senate President David Mark, and former Anambra State governor Peter Obi.
Others in attendance were Professor Jerry Gana, Aisha Yesufu, Professor Pat Utomi, and former Minister of Youths and Sports Solomon Dalung, alongside several former governors, including Rauf Aregbesola, Aminu Tambuwal, Rabiu Kwankwaso, Abdulfatai Ahmed, Rotimi Amaechi, and Babangida Aliyu.

Reacting to the development, the APC insisted that the coalition lacks the strength to challenge the incumbent president, maintaining that Tinubu remains far ahead politically.
“They (opposition figures) are just wasting their time as it is just impossible for them to catch up with a man who is several kilometers ahead of them in a marathon.
“The polls will be hitch-free and credible while he (Makinde) would not find an avenue to escape from the country before May 29, 2027 so that he would be made to answer for the many cases of abuse of office and corruption hanging on his neck,” the statement said.
The ruling party maintained that despite attempts to forge a united front, the opposition’s strategy lacks the momentum required to alter the outcome of the 2027 elections.
