Iconic Open University, a private tertiary institution based in Sokoto, has received the green light from the National Universities Commission (NUC) to launch a range of new postgraduate and undergraduate programmes, marking a significant step forward in expanding Nigeria’s open and distance learning sector.
The university’s Registrar, Dr. Muhammad Sanusi, announced the development in a statement on Sunday, describing the approval as a major milestone that strengthens the institution’s academic offerings and cements its role in advanced professional training.
Among the newly approved postgraduate programmes are:
Master of Business Administration (MBA)
Master of Public Administration (MPA)
Master of Public Health (MPH)
Master of Information Technology
Master of International Relations and Diplomacy
Master of Crime Management and Security Studies
Postgraduate Diploma in Public Health
Postgraduate Diploma in Information Technology
“These additions are not only timely but also critical in addressing the rising demand for expertise in areas such as health, technology, governance, and security,” Sanusi said. “We are building a strong foundation for academic excellence and societal impact.”

The NUC has also given the go-ahead for two new undergraduate programmes:
Bachelor of Education in Educational Management
Bachelor of Environmental Health Science (B.EHS)
