ICPC Docks El-Rufai Over Alleged N8.68bn CCTV Contract Scam

Former Kaduna State Governor, Nasir Ahmad El-Rufai, was on Thursday, June 25, 2026, arraigned before the Federal High Court in Kaduna over alleged irregularities in the award of an N8.68 billion surveillance contract during his administration.

The Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) brought El-Rufai before Justice Hauwa’u Buhari alongside his former adviser, Jimi Lawal, and five companies linked to the project.

The defendants are facing an amended 11-count charge bordering on alleged corruption, money laundering and related offenses.

According to the commission, the contract was awarded for the installation of a city-wide CCTV surveillance system in Kaduna metropolis.

Investigators alleged that the procurement process violated due process and that the contractor lacked the required capacity to execute the project.

The ICPC further alleged that funds connected to the contract were transferred through several companies and individuals between 2017 and 2022, with more than N2 billion suspected to be proceeds of unlawful activities.

The charge also names Bashir El-Rufai, an elder brother of the former governor, who is said to be at large. El-Rufai and Lawal pleaded not guilty to the charges.

Justice Buhari adjourned the case until Wednesday, July 1, 2026, for a ruling on the defendants’ bail applications.
