If I dump PDP, it’ll lose 2023 presidential election, Wike boasts

Governor of Rivers State, Nyesom Wike claims that the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) cannot prevail in the 2023 elections without his backing.

He made the claim during a press conference in Port Harcourt, the Rivers State capital, on Friday.

According to the governor, it would be a mistake to undervalue his influence or that of his allies because the party depends on them to win the elections in 2023.

Iyorchia Ayu, the PDP’s National Chairman, has been called on to resign by Wike and his allies.

Recall that Wike and his allies have refused to be part of the PDP Presidential Campaign Council over their demand for Ayu to step down.

The governor claimed it is unfair to southern party members for a northerner to hold the position of national chairman while the presidential candidate is also from the North.

Wike said, “The concession we have made is that we won’t leave the party. Assuming we say we will leave the party, do you know the effect of that?

“Whether you like it or not, if I leave the party today, PDP cannot win. If we are leaving, we are leaving with all our people, and that is the truth of the matter.

“However, let this man go, the zone that is supposed to produce the chairman, produce the chairman and you don’t want to make the concession. What concession have they made?

“Do you think that today, we the five governors say we going to a party and there will still be PDP?

“If the five governors say we are leaving the party, forget all this noise people are making, we are very formidable. We are not just ordinary governors, we are very formidable, we are very strong.”
