IGP Deploys Elite Police Forces to Combat Plateau’s Deadly Violence

In response to a spate of violent attacks in Plateau State, the Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, has ordered the immediate and comprehensive deployment of police tactical assets to troubled areas, specifically in Bokkos Local Government Area.

The directive follows a series of deadly attacks that have left residents devastated and communities on edge.

A statement issued by the Force Public Relations Officer, Olumuyiwa Adejobi, on Wednesday confirmed the deployment, which includes highly trained tactical personnel, drones for enhanced surveillance, armored personnel carriers, and helicopters.

The operation is aimed at addressing the growing security crisis in the region and ensuring the safety of residents.

“The recent attacks, which began on March 28, 2025, when armed assailants launched a brutal assault in Bokkos, have resulted in multiple fatalities and significant injuries,” Adejobi stated. “The Inspector-General of Police has made it clear that the Nigeria Police Force is fully committed to restoring peace in the region and ensuring that those responsible for these heinous acts are brought to justice.”

The violence, which has escalated over the past week, has left several communities in Bokkos Local Government Area in a state of fear and uncertainty.

As the attacks intensified, with the most recent fatalities reported just days ago, the Nigeria Police Force swiftly took action to contain the situation.

To lead this critical intervention, IGP Egbetokun has assigned Deputy Inspector-General of Police (DIG) Kwazhi Yakubu, head of the Department of Operations, to oversee the deployment.

On his arrival in Plateau State on April 8, 2025, DIG Kwazhi paid a courtesy visit to the Executive Governor of Plateau State, Barr. Caleb Mutfwang, where he expressed condolences to the affected families and discussed strategies to curb the violence.

The IGP has directed the team to take a multifaceted approach that not only addresses the ongoing violence but also focuses on preventing future attacks.

DIG Kwazhi’s mission includes a thorough assessment of the situation on the ground and a commitment to working collaboratively with state and local authorities, as well as community leaders, to develop long-term solutions to the crisis.

“The Nigeria Police Force is committed to working hand-in-hand with the Plateau State Government and other security agencies to restore stability and peace to the region,” the statement read. “We urge the public to cooperate with law enforcement, providing vital information that could aid in the investigation and efforts to secure the area.”

The Plateau State government, alongside security agencies, continues to assess the root causes of the violence, with the aim of finding sustainable ways to prevent further loss of life and ensure lasting peace for the residents of the state.

This latest deployment is part of a broader effort by the Nigeria Police Force to combat insecurity and address the growing concerns of citizens in Plateau State.

As the operation unfolds, officials hope that the coordinated action will bring an end to the killings and restore a sense of safety to the communities impacted by the violence.
