Inspector-General of Police Kayode Egbetokun on Thursday, February 20, decorated 19 senior police officers recently promoted to higher ranks.
The ceremony which took place at the Goodluck Jonathan International Peacekeeping Centre, Force Headquarters, Abuja, was attended by dignitaries, colleagues, and family members.
Among those promoted were three Commissioners of Police who were elevated to the rank of Assistant Inspector-General of Police.
Force Public Relations Officer ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi confirmed this in a statement, listing the new AIGs as Garba Ahmed, Nemi Edwin Osigoboka Iwo, and Salman Garba Dogo.
He added that 16 Deputy Commissioners of Police had also been promoted to Commissioners of Police, including Cyriacus Enechukwu, Gombit Bangs, Rosemary Akpan, and Ayodele Adeyemi.

Congratulating the officers, IGP Egbetokun commended their dedication and reminded them of the responsibilities their new positions carry.
“This promotion is not just a reward but a call to greater duty. As you wear these new ranks, I urge you to uphold professionalism, integrity, and the rule of law in discharging your duties,” he said.
He encouraged them to use their experience to “enhance national security and foster public trust” while assuring that the Force remains committed to protecting lives and property.
As the officers took their oath of allegiance, applause filled the hall, celebrating their years of service and commitment to the nation.
According to the statement, the promotions come as part of ongoing police reforms aimed at strengthening security and tackling emerging threats.
The IGP reiterated the Force’s dedication to “maintaining law and order, strengthening community policing, and upholding justice” in line with global best practices.
