The Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, has directed a full investigation into the death of 14-year-old Kehinde Alade, who was reportedly shot during a clash involving officers of the Oyo State Police Command and the Oyo State Traffic Management Authority (OYTMA).
In a statement on Wednesday, May 21, from Force Headquarters in Abuja, the IGP described the killing as both “tragic” and “deeply regrettable,” confirming that the officer suspected of pulling the trigger has been arrested.
“The process will be transparent, and its findings will be made public to ensure justice is duly served,” the statement read.

The police also expressed condolences to Kehinde’s family and reassured the public of its duty to protect lives and property.
While urging Nigerians to remain law-abiding, the statement called for peaceful and legal ways to express grievances.
The incident has triggered widespread outrage and renewed scrutiny over the use of force by security operatives, especially concerning the safety of minors in public spaces.
