I’m a saint compared to Buhari, Babangida says

Former Head of State, Ibrahim Babangida has described himself and those who he ruled Nigeria with as saints compared to the current leadership of the country under a democratic government.

Since the return of democracy to Nigeria in 1999 many Nigerians have had their expectations crushed. The situation of Nigeria according to many have even worsened under the current President Muhammadu Buhari-led administration; a situation that has forced some people to prefer a military government.

Speaking during an interview with Arise TV on Friday, Babangida argued that his days in government were far better than the current government in terms of  fight against corruption.

According to him, he would be referred to as a saint compared to Buhari, whose government had tolerated several people that embezzled billions belonging to the country.

He recalled how he sacked a former military governor who embezzled N313,000.

Babangida said, “From what I read, from analysis, I think we are saints when compared to what is happening under a democratic dispensation, he said.

“Today, those who have stolen billions and are in court are now parading themselves on the streets. Who else is better in fighting corruption?”

Many Nigerians are still finding it difficult to forgive Babangida over the annulment of the 1993 presidential election, supposed to be the fairest poll in the country, and clearly won by late Chief Moshood Abiola.
