The Peoples Democratic Party presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar says he is excited going into the 2023 presidential election with Delta State Governor Ifeanyi Okowa as his running mate.
This is coming despite the embitterment of some members of the major opposition party over Atiku’s choice of Okowa as his running mate.
While some of the members of the party have been asking for Okowa to be replaced, others are seeking for more consolatory approach, that will see Atiku reaching out to Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike, in person.
It was even learnt on Saturday that a number of the party’s 13 governors and loyalists have been asking Atiku to make more efforts to douse the tension in the party as a result of his choice of Okowa as running mate.
However, in a series of tweets on his verified Twitter handle, @Atiku, on Saturday the PDP presidential candidate wrote, “Getting this country back on track will require all hands on deck.
“And I am excited to go on this journey with my vice-presidential candidate, H.E Dr Ifeanyi Arthur Okowa @AIOkowa.
“Let’s come together as ONE towards a brighter future for all and for one Nigeria.”
He also attached a video of Okowa addressing Nigerians, describing himself as an incurable optimist in democracy and the promise it holds for the country.
“For me, being on the ticket with Atiku Abubakar, the presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, is an opportunity to play a role in resetting the trajectory of Nigeria back to the path of growth, peace and prosperity,” Okowa said in the video.
